LAGRANGEVILLE – Doreen Lynn King Gabio, 49, a lifelong area resident, died on June 23, 2013 at home.

Born in Beacon on September 8, 1963, she was the daughter of Wayne and Sharon (Loffay) King of Seymour, TN. In addition to her parents, Doreen is survived by her daughter, Brianne Knapp Hirsch and her wife Monica Hirsch of Wallingford, CT who she referred to as her "girls"; her son, Dylan Knapp of Walden; her special aunt, Linda Loffay; her brothers, Matthew King and Adam King; and her former husband, Waldo. Doreen was looking forward to meeting her twin granddaughter and grandson who are due this October. Doreen was a loving daughter, sister, and mother, and will be truly missed.

A John Jay High School graduate, Doreen was also a recent graduate with honors from Dutchess Community College. She planned on continuing her education at SUNY New Paltz. An accomplished dancer, she was a student and instructor at Nancie's Dance Studio in Hopewell Junction for many years.

A skilled painter, she also loved gardening, wildflowers, and nature. She enjoyed the Native American lifestyle and the spiritual world. Doreen will be remembered as a free spirit who was trusting in all people. She loved people and always wanted to help those in need.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 5 - 7 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by a Celebration of Her Life at 7 pm at the funeral home.

Because Doreen loved animals so much, donations may be made in lieu of flowers in her memory to an animal shelter of your choice.
