Doris M. Halpin, 92, an area resident since 1968, died on November 22, 2018 at the Renaissance Rehabilitation and Nursing Home.

Born on January 18, 1926 in Danbury, CT, Doris was the daughter of Dimen and Helen (Stuart) Hilderbrand. On May 1, 1948 at St. Mary's Church in Wappingers Falls, Doris married James E. Halpin who predeceased her on October 24, 2011.

Doris was an accomplished musician playing the guitar and mandolin. She played locally at the Bardavon in 1940. She was also an accomplished poet, starting writing as a teenager. She was a member of the Who's Who of Poetry and National Poets' Society, and was honored at the World of Poetry Convention in 1991. She also received the Golden Poet Award in 1991 and was on TV show Poetryland with her sister in 1992.

Doris is survived by her sons, Jim Halpin of Hopewell Junction, Alan Halpin and his wife Rose of Fayetteville, AK, and Gilbert Halpin of Hopewell Junction; her 10 grandchildren; her 20 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Daniel Halpin in 2015, her 2 sisters and 4 brothers.

Calling hours will be held on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday at 10am at Wappingers Rural Cemetery.
