Obituary

Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me shall live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?" -John 11:25-26

Doris Anne Horne, 95, DID believe it and left her home and earthly body behind to enter glory on August 14, 2024 with her only son by her side. Born on March 13, 1929 in Flushing, Queens to the late Alfred and Margaret (Lott) Pratt, she was a proud graduate of Bayside High and Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School which enabled her to land an Assistant Payroll Supervisor position with Westvaco (West Virginia Pulp & Paper), Park Ave, NY. She worked there for 19 years. On September 14, 1974, she married Louis G. Horne at home in Whitestone, NY. Louis, her son's favorite Step Dad, predeceased her in 1986.

Doris did a great job providing for both her son and mother at a time when being a divorced, single mother was uncommon and difficult. Still, over the years she enjoyed many types of dancing, playing softball in Central Park, landscaping and many other fun hobbies. She could be found hanging from monkey bars as a grandmother! She was a dedicated serving member of Fishkill Baptist Church, where she is affectionately known to all as "Aunt Doris."

Doris is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Dr. John Hawco and Cheryl of Pine Bush, NY; her grandchildren and spouses: Christin Daniels (Tommy), Delmar, NY, Carin Eaton, Syracuse, NY, Stephen Hawco (Shannon) Vestal, NY, Stacie Mitchell (Matthew) Endicott, NY, and Timothy Hawco, Johnson City, NY; and her great-grandchildren: Teagan, Aidan, Isla and Kieran; her nephew James Pratt (Sherrie), Turlock, CA, her niece Sharon Newman (Danny), Longview, TX.

She is also survived by Lou's grandchildren: Patty Jenkins, Mendham, NJ, Billy Horne, (Vicki) Boonton, NJ, Kim Doyle (Rick), Mahopac, NY, Brad (Yukyong Kim) Williamsburg, VA, Donna Horne, Lewisville, TX, Cindy Cussack (Joe), Salt Point, NY, and Danny Horne, Salt Point, NY, and his great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Doris was predeceased by her brothers and their spouses, Rev. Alfred Pratt (Betty) and Raymond Pratt (Jo Anne).

Visitation will be held on October 5th at Fishkill Baptist Church, 107 NY Route 82, Fishkill, from 11:30 AM with a Memorial Service at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers please make contributions to Fishkill Baptist. The family extends their gratitude to her church family and to Hudson Valley Hospice of Dutchess County for their support.
