Obituary

Good Friday, April 18th, 1930, Doris was born in Bournemouth, England, middle child of the late Ester May (Mead) and Stanley Richard William Johnson. Her elder sister, Beryl Butt, pre-deceased her earlier this year. Her younger sister, Margaret Kent, is currently living in Stratford Upon Avon, United Kingdom. Along with Margaret, Doris leaves in England a nephew, David Butt, and his wife, Nicola, their two sons Joshua and Matthew along with their wives and children. Doris leaves two nieces and their families also in the UK; Mandy Shirley, her partner Kevin, her children Sophie and Oliver, and Sharon Westwood, her husband, Andrew, their children James, (wife, Gail and their three children), Amy, (husband, Mark, and their two children), Molly, Jessica and Millie-Ann (her husband J.D.).

She arrived through Ellis Island on The RMS Queen Mary in 1963 to become a nanny for and autistic boy in Poughkeepsie. This is where she met and married the love of her life, Roy William Johansen, on February 5th, 1972, while their daughter, Jacqueline R. Hoffman, stood between them.

Doris was a very special woman, loved by all who knew her. She always had a shoulder and ear for friend or family member. She and Roy were active in Autism awareness and support. She walked every year until well into her 80's for Autism along with every other charity that requested. Doris was an active member of the Hopewell Reformed Church, where she'll be remembered this Sunday, October 30th, during coffee hour. She was an avid tennis player and gardener. She had beautiful rose garden! Doris and Roy had an open door and never-ending coffee pot at their home in Stormville, where she lived alone after Roy's death in October of 2013, until January of 2020.

Doris May Johansen passed away peacefully at age 92 in her daughter's home in Stormville, NY on October 26, 2022, only one week after leaving the loving care of assisted living at the Inn at the Fountains in Millbrook. Surviving son-in-law, Randall A. Hoffman and daughter, Jackie, were holding her hand, they were supported by the care of Hudson Valley Hospice.

She leaves the other two loves of her life, her grandson, Richie R. Hoffman and granddaughter, Heather R. Hoffman. She and Roy shared a great deal in the care of these two young adults with enduring affection. Randy and Jackie can attribute their thirty years of marriage to this assistance.

Even though Doris wasn't crazy about wakes, we're aware of so many she touched needing to say goodbye. Make sure you wear bright colors, especially green, to celebrate her 92 years blessing us. Calling hours will be held at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, from 2-4pm and 7-9pm with an informal service, including memories for people to share, will begin at 8pm. A celebration of life will be held later. In leu of flowers, and in honor of her granddaughter, donations may be made in Doris' memory to New Horizons Resources, Inc., 123 West Road Pleasant Valley, NY 12569 (dmcgorry@nhrny.org).
