HOPEWELL JUNCTION - Doris E. Pelton, 87, passed away on September 26, 2013 at The Pines at Poughkeepsie.

She was born in Whitestone on December 9, 1925, the daughter of the late Robert and Anna Eadie Evers. In July of 1947, she married Herbert Pelton. They had 12 children, Julie (and John) Purdy, Herb, Jr., Jim, Charlie (and Sandy Lasher), Tom (and Cherrie), Mary (and Bob) Simons, Ella Gufler, Laura (and the late Mike) Wetzel, Teresa (and Steve) Hughes, Dennis (and Gretchen); Bob (and Deb), and Dan. She was predeceased by her brothers, Robert and Henry, and her sister, Mary (and Harlowe) Willis. She is survived by her sister, Jean (and Bill) Citterbart. She has 26 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Doris was devoted to her family and was a faithful parishioner at St. Denis Church in Hopewell Junction. She loved her family and took special pleasure in get-togethers, picnics, and camping trips.

She lived in Whitestone for 42 years, and also lived in Pleasant Valley, Liverpool, and Hopewell Junction. She was retired from the Law Office of Steinburg, Symer, and Platt. She was a life member of the Pleasant Valley Fire Ladies Auxiliary, and was very active in the Whitestone American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of The Pines at Poughkeepsie for the exceptional care they gave her over the past year.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 am at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in St. Denis Cemetery.
