Obituary

Dorothea J. Loos, age 92, passed away on June 2, 2023 at Mid Hudson Regional Hospital. Born in Beacon, NY on March 12, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Wright and Edythe (Ketcham) Jackson. On October 25, 1953, she married the love of her life Claude F. Loos, Jr at Bethel Baptist Church in Hopewell Junction, NY. They were married for 62 years until he predeceased her in August, 2015.

Dorothea had a long career as a Registered Nurse while ultimately retiring as a Public Health Nurse for Our Lady of Consolation Residence in West Islip, NY. She taught Sunday school classes and home confirmation classes for St. David's Lutheran Church in Massapequa Park, NY. She was adept at sewing and needlepoint making various items gifted to family members. She also enjoyed reupholstering furniture and was an avid boating enthusiast. She was a Member of Captree Power Squadron in NY and the Women's Auxiliary Coast Guard in Florida.

Dorothea is survived by her beloved children: Edythe Broscheit, Stephen Loos and his wife Patricia, Jonathan Loos and his loving companion Kathryn; her grandchildren: John, Donald, Stephen, Samantha, Thomas, Patrick, Christopher and Brendan; her great-grandchildren: Sailor, Finley and Daisy Mae; her loving "sister" Sandra Jackson; and her sister-in-law Loretta Jackson, and adoring nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers: Verne and Wayne Jackson.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday June 7th, 2023 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc. 895 Route 82 Hopewell Junction, NY 12533. A funeral service will be held at 10 am on Thursday June 8th, 2023 at Bethel Baptist Church in Hopewell Junction, followed by a burial at Shenandoah Cemetery.
