Obituary

Dorothy Mae Cyran, 77, a resident of Wappingers Falls since 1966 and formerly of Staten Island and Brooklyn, died peacefully on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at her home surrounded by her family.

Born in Brooklyn on January 12, 1938, she was the daughter of Charles F. Allen and Marie C. Goodrich Allen. Dorothy had been employed as a Customer Service Representative for New York Telephone for several years until shortly after her marriage when she devoted her life to raising her family. She had also served as the parish secretary for St. Columba Church in Hopewell Junction for many years.

Dorothy was a parishioner of St. Columba Church, and a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and Melzingah Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Her focus was always on her family and she cherished spending time with her husband, daughters and grandchildren. She spent countless hours as a Girl Scout Leader and volunteer at her daughters' schools. She enjoyed spending time with friends and neighbors. She also was an avid reader and loved doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles.

Dorothy was a kind and devout woman who will always be remembered for her laughter and smiling face. She was as beautiful on the inside as she was on the outside. She will be loved and missed by all who knew her.

On October 8, 1960 at St. Rose of Lima Church in Brooklyn, Dorothy married the love of her life, Edward T. Cyran, who survives at home. She is also survived by her daughters and their husbands, Virginia and John Pekarik of Underhill, VT, Margaret and Anthony Dalia of Wappingers Falls, and Carolyn and Anthony Alongi of Peachtree City, GA; her grandchildren, Molly and her husband Luke Fry, Audrey and Claire Pekarik, Elizabeth, Rachel and Anthony Dalia, Matthew and Samantha Alongi; her sister, Joan Kelly of Valley Stream; her brother-in-law, Joseph Liotta of Batavia, OH; her cousin, Grace O'Rourke of Bethel, CT; and many nieces and nephews who cherished and adored her. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by her sister, Bette Lou Liotta; and her brother-in-law, James Kelly.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11:30am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in St. Denis Cemetery.
