Dorothy R. Dore, 84, a resident of Hopewell Junction since 1974 and formerly of Woodhaven, died peacefully on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center surrounded by her family.
Born in Brooklyn on January 14, 1931, she was the daughter of Charles and Madeline Wray Lane. Dorothy worked for 39 years at Van Wyck Junior High School, welcoming the students every day. Following her retirement last June, the school community named the entrance of the school "The Dore Greeting Center." Dorothy will forever be remembered for the love she had for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
On March 25, 1951 at Our Lady of Grace Church in Queens, Dorothy married John K. Dore who predeceased her on July 24, 1992. She is survived by her sons, John Dore of Montreal, Quebec and Richard Dore of the Town of Poughkeepsie; her daughters and their husbands, Patricia and William Lynch of Hopewell Junction, Maureen and Rod Duncan of the Town of Poughkeepsie, Kathleen and Mark Santosuosso of Hopewell Junction; her grandchildren, Lisa, Lauren, Megan, Heather, Billy, Kerrianne, Colleen, Deidre, Kevin, Thomas, Michael and John; her great grandchildren, Dylan, Ryleigh, Presley, Cole, Dustin, Casey, Jackson, Hayden, Mason, Brynn and Callie; her siblings, Marilyn Hurley and Charles Lane; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2-6pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass will be offered on Monday at 11:30am at St. Denis Roman Catholic Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in St. Denis Cemetery.
