Dorothy A. Metzger, 93, a resident of Hillside Lake for over 70 years, died peacefully at her home on October 22, 2021.

Born on December 2, 1927 in Staten Island, Dorothy was the daughter of Otto and Florence (Hamer) Volk. Dorothy was raised in the Bronx, where on October 10, 1948, she married William T. Metzger. Dorothy and William relocated to East Fishkill in the early 1950's as William began a career at IBM.

Dorothy worked as a telephone operator for NY Bell in both New York City and Poughkeepsie. Upon leaving NYC, she left the telephone company. While raising her family during the 1960's, she worked at the Hopewell Pharmacy. Dorothy returned to the telephone company eventually retiring from the Poughkeepsie office. Dorothy was a longstanding member of the Church of the Resurrection in Hopewell Junction and East Fishkill Seniors.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Wendy of East Fishkill, William and his wife Janet of Warrenton, VA, Glenn and his wife Marie of East Fishkill; her grandchildren, Susanne Morgan and her husband Mike, William Metzger and his wife Robyn, John Metzger and his wife Janine, Sean Metzger, Karen Metzger and her fiancé Brian Miranda, Thomas Metzger, Sherry Caldwell and her husband Gary, and Katelyn Warren; her great grandchildren, Joey, Kailey, Jack, Glenn, Trent, Gatlin, and Valen; as well as her nephews, Roger Volk and his wife Vanessa, Robert Volk, Martin Volk and many friends and extended family including Glen Warren and the Sweetser and Martin Families.

Dorothy was predeceased by her husband William in 1994, her grandson Glenn Metzger Jr. in 2000 and her brother Franklin in 2003.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday October 30, 2021 from 1 to 4pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82 Hopewell Junction. A brief service will be held at 3:30pm.
Everyone is invited to her Celebration of Life at the Knapp Farm immediately following.
