Obituary

POUGHKEEPSIE-Dorothy K. "Dottie" Zimmerman, 84, an area resident for 25 years and formerly of Putnam Valley, died on Friday, January 25, 2013 at the Hudson Valley Rehabilitation Center in Highland.

Born in Womelsdorf, PA on September 4, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Ida May Dissinger Smeck. On October 29, 1948 in Williamsburg, VA, Dorothy married George Zimmerman. Mr. Zimmerman predeceased her on December 22, 2005.

Dorothy worked as a Dietary Aid at Cortlandt Nursing Care for 25 years until her retirement. She previously was employed as a Nurse’s Aid at the Marrs Nursing Home in Lake Mohegan. In the late 1990’s, she worked as a Bagger at Stop and Shop in Wappingers Falls.

She was a member of The Valley Christian Church and was very devoted to her church family. Dorothy was a resident at the Lexington Club where she enjoyed bingo, coffee hour, going out to eat, visiting with all her friends and loved helping others.

Dorothy is survived by her children, George Zimmerman, Jr. and his wife Kathleen of LaGrangeville, Kathy Hoanzl and her husband Steven of Yorktown Heights, Michael Zimmerman and his wife Ava of Reinholds, PA, and Tina Echandy and her husband Vincent of Hensonville; her grandchildren, Scott Zimmerman and his wife Sarah Vornholt, Stephanie Strazza and her husband Sal, Michael Hoanzl, Christina Zimmerman, Michael G. Zimmerman, Michael R. Zimmerman, Jr., Elizabeth Zimmerman, Nicholas Zimmerman, Maria McGibbon, Austin Biastiani, Kathryn Echandy, Katelyn Echandy, and Ashley Echandy; her great-grandchildren, Kassidy Ann, Collin, Marcus, Christian, Ky-Mani, Andrew, Ace, Brooklyn, Thomas, and Elisia; her sister, Mary Druckenmiller; and her nephews, Barry Druckenmiller and his wife Peg and Terry Druckenmiller and his wife Debbie. She was also predeceased by her grandson, Eric Zimmerman, who died on December 4, 1982.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 3 – 7 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday at 11 am at the funeral home with Reverend Bob Warner officiating. Interment will follow at St. Denis Cemetery.
