Obituary


Douglas W. Evert, 69, died on Thursday, January 14, 2010 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. Born on May 24, 1940 in Rochester, he was the son of the late Franklin and Muriel Bark Evert. He moved to LaGrange in 1944, attended local schools, graduated from Arlington High School and attended Dutchess Community College.  He founded Mid-County Products, Inc. and had been the President since 1962.


He was a life member of Mid-County Rod & Gun Club and had served as President and as a member of the Board of Directors. He was also a life member of 110 Rod & Gun Club and had served as President and a Board Member for many years.  He presently was serving as a trustee for Clove Valley Cemetery Association and the LaGrange Cemetery Association. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where he served as a Trustee for many years.  He was a Charter Member of the LaGrange Rotary Club, had served as the President and was presently a member of the Board of Directors.  He was a Level 6 Paul Harris Fellow and a Benefactor for Rotary International. He was a Life Member of the Poughkeepsie Elks #275 and a former member of the LaGrange Fire Department, Boy Scout Council, Society of Manufacturing Engineering, Troop #82 and the United Way.


Doug's wife Audrey predeceased him in 2002. He is survived by his brother Jim and his wife Sharyn of San Clemente, CA; and his niece and nephew, Kim and Scott Evert. He also has three sons that survive: Douglas Evert Jr., his wife Kay and their daughter, Kelly Ann.  Douglas Jr. also has two children from a previous marriage, Doris and Douglas W. Evert III; Jeffrey F. Evert, his wife Sherry and their three children Jennifer, Nicole and Jeffrey Jr. from Lugoff, SC; and Franklin F. Evert, his wife Kelly and their son Wayne of Wappingers Falls.  His previous wife and friend, Shirley Evert, lives in LaGrange.


Doug enjoyed "service above self" and loved entertaining - Rotary, picnics, church events and Evert Family Reunions for 21 years.  He also enjoyed motor-homing throughout the country with Audrey for over 15 years. During his last few years, he enjoyed traveling to Alaska, Maine and Southern California and attending the Winter Carnival in Saranac Lake with his dear friend Cheryl.


Calling hours will be held on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 6 South Cross Road, LaGrangeville followed by interment in the family plot in the Clove Valley Cemetery.
