LaGrangeville – Dymphna J. McCooey Cousin, 91, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2020 at the Lutheran Care Center.
Born in Ireland on May 19, 1929, Dymphna was the daughter of John and Mary (Bannigan) McCooey. She was the youngest of eleven children and grew on a farm in Balleybay, Ireland. In her early twenties, she came to Utica, New York to help care for her elderly Aunt. It is there where she met her soulmate and husband of 57 years, Edward Cousin. They wed on May 17, 1958 in Utica, NY and raised four cherished children. They enjoyed their later years at their second home in the Adirondacks, spending time with family and friends on Lake Brantingham.
Dymphna was a parishioner of St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church in LaGrangeville. In her later years, she battled Alzheimer’s disease. Although the disease stole her memory, it did not take her kind, happy, humorous and loving disposition or her love for her family. More than anything, she cherished time with her family especially her beloved grandchildren. She is predeceased by her loving husband, Edward Cousin, who passed away on August 4, 2015. She is survived by her children, Stephen and Karen Cousin, Kathleen and Anthony Hunt, Kevin and Aimee Cousin, Ted and Shawna Cousin; her grandchildren, Meghan (Michael) Connor, Brendan (Kelley) Hunt, Keara Hunt, and Eddie and Evan Cousin; and her dear friend and cousin, Eileen Luker. Her first great grandchild is expected in March 2021 and we know how much joy that would bring her.
We would like to thank the staff at Lutheran Care Center for the wonderful care and love Dymphna received over the last couple years.
Due to COVID, a Memorial service will be offered at a later date. Arrangements are under the directions of the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
