Edith L. Ketcham, an active resident of Fishkill, passed away at Vassar Brothers Medical Center on Sunday, March 3, 2013.
Edie was born on December 24, 1923 in Bridgeport, Connecticut. She was the daughter of Daniel and Mabel (Conklin) Fenske. A graduate of Harding High School in Bridgeport, she worked as Secretary to the Vice President and General Manager of Dresser Industries in Stratford, CT for more than 20 years; she also served as Secretary to the President & CEO of City Trust Co. in Bridgeport.
On June 3, 1971, she married Earl T. Ketcham; he predeceased her on January 11, 1988.
Edie was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Beacon. She was an Ordained Elder and served as Church Secretary from 1990 until 2010.
Over the years, she was active in many organizations in Southern Dutchess County, including Matinee Musicale (Treasurer); Blodgett Memorial Library (Board of Trustees, Secretary); St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary (Beacon, Volunteer); and the Fishkill Historical Society. Prior to moving to Fishkill, she was active in all branches of the I.O.O.F. of Connecticut, serving as President of the Rebekah Assembly of Connecticut (1962-63) and was Representative to the International Association of Rebekah Assemblies (1963-64).
Edie is survived by several close friends who consider her among their family, including Robert N. Chambers (Naples, FL), Ellen Edgar (Poughkeepsie) and Chuck and Lois Heady (Fishkill). For Ann, Ran and Jack Meagher (Millbrook) and Mary Beth Kean and family (Austin, TX), she will forever be our beloved "Aunt Edie." She will be sorely missed by all whose lives she touched.
The family would like to thank Dr. Elliot Levine and Dr. Lawrence Solomon for their incredible support and care; the exceptional nursing staff at Vassar Brothers Medical Center, particularly the men and women in RCU and PCU; the nurses on the Roosevelt Wing at Wingate; as well as the supportive services received by Vassar Hospital's Palliative Care team, as well as Hospice.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at the First Presbyterian Church, 50 Liberty Street, Beacon. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
