COLD SPRING - Edward J. Cretelli, a lifelong resident of Cold Spring, died on Monday, October 16, 2017 at Putnam Ridge Nursing Center in Brewster. He was 78.
Son of the late Jacob and Veronica (Monroe) Cretelli, he was born in Cold Spring on March 15, 1939. Edward worked for I.B.M. for 30 years at their facilities in Poughkeepsie and East Fishkill, retiring in 1992. He then took on an active role as a partner at his family's business, C & E Paint Supply in Cold Spring.
Edward truly cherished his hometown and always enjoyed walking through the village and spending time along the river. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Loretto Church, where he served as a parish council member for many years. He was instrumental in helping to establish the North Highlands Engine Co. 1 and also belonged to the Cold Spring Jaycees organization. He was an avid reader and especially loved history. He'll be remembered by all who knew him for his quick wit and dry sense of humor.
On February 15, 1959, he married Rosemarie Arrigo at Our Lady of Loretto Church in Cold Spring. They were happily married for 58 years. Rosemarie survives at home.
Edward is also survived by his daughter, Donna Friedrich & her husband Mike of Fishkill; his grandchildren, Alek Friedrich of New Paltz and Emma Friedrich of Fishkill; his sister, Diane Hattersley & her husband Gary of Lagrangeville; also several nieces & nephews and many other loving relatives & friends.
There will be no visitation. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 28, at Our Lady of Loretto Church, 24 Fair Street, Cold Spring. Interment will follow at Cold Spring Cemetery.
