EAST FISHKILL – Edward William Hutchinson, 99, an area resident since 1977 and formerly of Yonkers and the Bronx, died on October 28, 2023 at the Pines at Poughkeepsie.
Born in the Bronx on October 17, 1924, he was the son of James Osborne and Amelia (Smith) Hutchinson. He proudly served our country as a Water Tender First Class in the US Navy during World War II. Edward was the owner and operator of the family businesses, Hutchinson's Equipment and Crown L.P. Gas until his retirement at the age of 75. Ed was "always the boss!" He enjoyed woodworking, bicycling, fishing and traveling.
On August 31, 1947 at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in the Bronx, Edward married the love of his life, Lillian Clair Wurch, who predeceased him on January 2, 2016. He is survived by his children and their spouses, Nannette and Russ O'Malley, Patricia and Tony Coletti, and Edward and Elaine Hutchinson; his grandchildren, Jennifer and Shea Gallante, Megan and Philip Goodwin, Anthony and Elizabeth Coletti, Erik and Michelle Hutchinson, Vanessa and Brandon Stoner; and his great-grandchildren, Braedon, Kaeden, Mia, Anna, Liam, Riley, Ella, Ava, Colton, Gianna, Annabella and Silver. In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his siblings, James Osborne, Marie Lawrence and Clarence Hutchinson.
The funeral service will be held on Friday at 11am at the Community Mausoleum at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc.
