EAST FISHKILL – Edward Martinelli, 82, died peacefully at his home on January 17, 2022 surrounded by his family. An area resident since 1993, he formerly lived in Brooklyn.
Born in Montefegatesi, Italy on January 28, 1939, he was the son of Ovidio and Rita Martinelli. Edward proudly served our country in the US Army during the Vietnam War and was employed as an Ornamental Ironworker with Local #455, Ironworkers Union.
Edward was very active in the community. He was a member of the Stormville Fire Company, a former Lieutenant with the East Fishkill Fire Police, former president of the Dutchess County Fire Police Association, member Emergency Response Team, member PNWFPA, and member FASNY. He was also a parishioner of St. Denis Church where he sang in the choir. He was a member of the East Fishkill Seniors where he managed the vegetable garden, and a member of the East Fishkill Community Chorus. He was a volunteer driver for Castle Point VAMC for 8 years, and a member of the Ralph Waterman Bird Club and Cornell Cooperative Extension. He also loved to dance!
On November 16, 1963 at St. Athanasius Church in Brooklyn, Edward married Diana Bartoli who survives at home. He is also survived by his children, Michele Martinelli, Christina Thorpe and her husband John, and Paul Martinelli; his grandchildren, Veronica Clare, Angelo Cassano, Jaime and Emily Martinelli, Gabrielle Daniels, Tristan and Micah Martinelli; his great-grandchildren, Kyla and Thomas; his siblings and their spouses, Teodora and Mauro Simonetti, Clorindo and Queta Martinelli; his sister-in-law, Giulia Martinelli; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Vittorio Martinelli.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. There will be a firematic service at 7:30pm. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Thursday at 11am at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction. Interment will be in Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
