Obituary

Edward F. Murphy, Sr., 82, a resident of Wappingers Falls for 40 years and formerly of Lake Carmel and Mount Vernon, died on Monday, April 1, 2013 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.
Born in Mount Vernon on October 2, 1930, he was the son of Leo J. and Sylvia Conklin Murphy. Edward proudly served our country as a Sergeant in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was employed as a maintenance coordinator for IBM, East Fishkill for 30 years until his retirement in 1990 and was a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club.
Edward was a parishioner of St. Mary, Mother of the Church in Fishkill. He was a woodworker, hunter, fisherman, clock maker, craftsman, and tinkerer extraordinaire who could make anything work. If he couldn't make it work, he would frame it and paint it "Murphy" red.
On November 21, 1953 at Our Lady of the Lake Church in Lake Carmel, Edward married Mary Oates who survives at home. He is also survived by his children and their spouses, Terri and Robert Tompkins of Holmes, Edward and Sandra Murphy of Wappingers Falls, Monica and Robert Cope of Livonia, Stephen and Lynn Murphy of Poughquag, Michael and Toni Murphy of Poughkeepsie; his brother, Ronald G. Murphy of Sunland, CA; his grandchildren, Sean and Maura Tompkins, Jennifer, David and Ashley Murphy, Ryan and Patrick Cope, Billy and Heather Murphy, Sarah, Michael and Evan Murphy; his great-grandchildren, Trinity and Gabriel Tompkins; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his infant son in 1966; and his sister, Patricia Retta.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4-8pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10am at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 106 Jackson Street, Fishkill followed by military honors. Private interment will be in Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
