Edward A. Somers, 88, of Nettles Island in Jensen Beach, FL and formerly of Fishkill, died on Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at the Montrose VAMC.
Born in Cold Spring on October 30, 1925, he was the son of the late Arthur and Jessie Lorensen Somers. Edward proudly served our country in the US Army during World War II and was decorated with the Purple Heart for his sacrifice. He was employed as a Master Mechanic for Local #137, Operating Engineers Union, Pleasantville until his retirement in 1990. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Jensen Beach and Poughkeepsie.
He was a motors enthusiast. In his younger years, he raced stock cars. He was an avid fan of NASCAR, and cherished riding his motorcycle up until his final years. Edward was also an animal lover, and proud owner of many pets throughout his lifetime, especially his beloved dogs, Freckles and Harley.
Edward is survived by his daughters and their husbands, Cynthia & Steven Spahn of Wappingers Falls, Laura & David Mann of Maybrook; his stepdaughter, Linda Hofer & her husband Ron of Parrish, FL; his granddaughters, Summer Fisher and Zoe Mann; and his step granddaughters, along with their children, Kimberly Brown & her husband Michael and Erica Pikor & her husband Gregg.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday from 10 -11 am at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill followed by a service at 11 am. Interment will be in the Cold Spring Cemetery with Military Honors.
