Obituary

HOPEWELL JUNCTION – Edwin N. "Newt" Lown, Sr., an area resident since 1939 and formerly of Millerton, died on Friday, February 1, 2013 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.

Born in Millerton, NY on November 20, 1927, he was the son of the late George and Mary Partington Lown. On May 20, 1951 at St. Denis Church in Hopewell Junction, Ed married Minnie Knickerbocker who survives at home.

Ed was owner and operator of Lown Brothers Plumbing with his brothers for 34 years until his retirement in 1990. He was a parishioner at St. Columba Church in Hopewell Junction. He was also a Life Member of the Hopewell Hose Fire Department and the Whortekill Rod and Gun Club. He was a member of the Mid County Association and the East Fishkill Board of Appeals.

In addition to his loving wife of over 60 years, Ed is survived by his children, Lisa Mekeel and her husband Rick of Hopewell Junction, Edwin N. Lown, Jr. and his wife Jeanette of Hopewell Junction; and John Lown and his wife Renee of Dove Canyon, Ca; his grandchildren, Edwin Newton Lown, III and his wife Jennifer, Kelly French and her husband Trevor, Sarah Lown, Katie Mekeel, Hailey Lown, and Trevor Lown; his great-grandchildren, Edwin Newton Lown, IV, Gregory Lown, and Kaylee Lown; and his sister, Lillian Caruso of Mooresville, NC. Ed was also predeceased by his sisters and brothers, Ernest Lown, Sarabell Greer, Elsie Card, Eleanor Curry, Jane Cronin, George Lown, Howard Lown, Roger Lown, and William Lown.

Calling hours will be held on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 12:00 pm at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction.
