Eileen Veronica Andrews Thomas, 93, a resident of Hopewell Junction for 19 years and formerly of Brooklyn, died on Wednesday, October 26, 2011 at her home.
Born in Brooklyn on August 8, 1918, she was the daughter of William and Rose Elizabeth Veronica Keegan Andrews. Eileen was the youngest of 14 children. Only 7 lived to adulthood, two of which succumbed to the 1918 Flu Epidemic during which she was born. Eileen worked for the Department of Defense, United States Navy during World War II and was the only woman working at the Brooklyn Navy Yards. She was employed as a comptometer operator for Borden's Milk in Brooklyn. She was a parishioner of St. Denis Church and was an avid bingo player and animal lover.
On December 13, 1947, Eileen married Joseph William Thomas who predeceased her on May 31, 1992. She was also predeceased by her siblings, William, Charles, James, Alice, Vincent, Frank and Gerard Andrews and Margaret Andrews Moss; and her great-grandson, Keegan James Cooke.
Eileen is survived by her daughter, Eileen Veronica Thomas Melanson and her husband, James Paul Melanson; and her granddaughters, Megan Eileen Melanson Cooke and her husband Gordon Campbell Cooke III, Karen Alice Melanson and her fiance Kevin Greany and Marianne Veronica Melanson.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 2-5pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 12pm at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in St. Denis Cemetery.
