Eleanor White's Obituary
POUGHKEEPSIE – Eleanor L. White, 93, a lifelong area resident, passed away on Monday, April 6, 2015 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.
Born on May 14, 1921 in Beacon, she was the daughter of Bertrum and Louise Emma (Timmerman) Tompkins. On May 19, 1939 in Phoenicia, Eleanor married John S. White who predeceased her on February 11, 1999 after 60 years of marriage.
Along with her husband, Eleanor owned and operated White's Hudson River Marina in New Hamburg since 1959. Prior to the marina, they owned White's Marine Sales in Poughkeepsie. Eleanor dedicated her life to the marina, but most importantly, she loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them.
Eleanor is survived by her children, Anita Reiners of Wappingers Falls, Donald J. White and his wife Linda Jean of Poughkeepsie, and Judy Armstrong of Beacon; her grandchildren, Lisa Cleary and her husband William, Debra Olivet and her husband John, Robin Reiners and her husband Scott Bajcar, Matthew White and his wife Deirdre, Alyssa Donohue and her husband William, Christopher White and his wife Lara, Gregori White and his fiancée Deirdre Burns, and Jennifer Dawson and her husband Thomas; her great-grandchildren, Keri, Salvatore, Kacey, Andrea, Zachary, Seth, Joshua, Emily, Olivia, Erin, Billy, Nicholas, Rian, Liam, Harper, and Jordyn; her sister, Ruth Lauritsen, 101, of Millbrook; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, Eleanor was also predeceased by her sons-in-law, Gerald Reiners and John Armstrong, and her brothers, Louis Tompkins and Carl Tomkpins.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The funeral service will be held on Friday at 10 am at the funeral home followed by entombment at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery.
