Eleanore
Laux
December 6, 1943 – January 8, 2025
Eleanore "Ellie" P. Laux, 81, passed away on January 8, 2025, at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY. In a touching reflection of her enduring bond with her husband, John "Jack" Laux, she joined him in eternal rest exactly 25 years after his passing on January 8, 2000.
Born on December 6, 1943, in Brooklyn, NY, Eleanore was the beloved daughter of the late Philip and Anna (Traola) Prestigiacomo. She was raised in Brooklyn, where her warmth and quick wit began to shine. After many years, she retired to Little Egg Harbor, NJ and then relocated to Dutchess County in 2014 to be closer to her family.
Ellie's life was filled with creativity, generosity, and love. She had a long and accomplished career as a legal secretary in New York City and Brooklyn, earning the admiration of colleagues for her intelligence and sharp insights-she was often regarded as smarter than most of the lawyers in the room.
Ellie's passions and hobbies were a reflection of her vibrant spirit. She found immense joy in baking, sewing, making chocolates, and cooking, often sharing her creations with loved ones. She had a knack for crafting, whether it was designing beautiful pieces with her sewing machine, crocheting (or anything involving all that yarn!) or creating thoughtful gifts that brought smiles to others. Her hobbies were not just activities-they were her way of expressing love and spreading happiness.
She also loved volunteering and giving back to her community. While living in New Jersey, she dedicated her time to the Coast Guard and various political organizations, finding fulfillment in helping others and making a difference.
Above all, Ellie's greatest pride and joy were her family. She was a devoted mother to her two sons and later a doting grandmother. She is survived by her son, William Laux, and his wife, Kirsten, of Fishkill, NY; and her beloved grandsons, Aiden and Christopher Laux, who were her light and laughter. She is also survived by her sister, Marie Skelly, and Marie's husband, Gerard "Chippy"; her nephew, Gerard Skelly, and his wife, Joy; and her niece, Ann Marie Casey, and her husband, Eddie and great-nieces JoanMarie and Anna.
Ellie was predeceased by her husband, John "Jack" Laux, and her eldest son, John "Jackie" Laux, who passed away on August 21, 1991. Despite these profound losses, Ellie's strength and resilience were an inspiration to those around her.
Ellie's family will forever cherish her humor, her creativity, and the many "Ellie-isms" that made her truly one of a kind. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
