Elizabeth Schwartz Alexander passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 19, 2023 with family and friends nearby.
She was born in New York City on January 29, 1937 to the late Dr. Sydney P. Schwartz and Jeanne (Seeley) Schwartz. She graduated from Oberlin College in 1958, with a BA in Sociology and Economics. In 1978, she earned her MBA from Marist College. On June 7, 1958, she married David Lee Alexander, of Wooster, Ohio, who survives at home. She then worked for AT&T while he attended graduate school.
Liz and Dave moved to Dutchess County, NY in 1962. They joined the First Reformed Church of Fishkill that year. Liz sang in the church choir for over 50 years and did many volunteer projects for the church, including serving as treasurer and writing grants for church restoration projects. She will be remembered as a very capable and caring person who showed her deep love for others by volunteering her talents with several organizations. These include school PTAs, the Grace Smith Shelter for domestic violence, AARP tax preparation assistance with the Dutchess County office for the Aging. She enjoyed playing bridge with friends and was active in several social groups. She and Dave shared a love of folk music. She also enjoyed camping with her family all over the country. Later, she and Dave traveled to many places around the world.
In addition to her beloved husband, Liz is survived by their three children: Robert J. Alexander (Cindy Laughlin) of Phoenix, AZ, Michael S. Alexander (Melissa) of Seattle, WA, Janet C. Alexander (Douglas Koger) who are living on their sailboat currently in French Polynesia, and their granddaughter Isabel Alexander of Seattle.
Liz was predeceased by her brother Lewis Seeley Schwartz.
Calling hours will be held on Friday October 27, 2023 from 5-7 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main St. Fishkill, New York. A Memorial Service will be held at 11am on Saturday October 28, 2023 at the First Reformed Church of Fishkill, followed by interment in the church's Memorial Garden, and a reception in the church.
