Obituary

Elizabeth L. Burke Kuhnow, a long-time resident of Freeport, died at the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence in Newburgh on Thursday, October 30, 2014. She was 86.
Daughter of the late Thomas and Sophie (Beckman) Burke, she was born in Lakewood, NJ on August 5, 1928. On July 7, 1973, she married Harold Kuhnow, who predeceased her in 1993.
Elizabeth worked for more than 40 years for the Freeport School District, where she served as an administrative assistant. She was a very active member of her church, Holy Redeemer in Freeport; and also belonged to the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and the Business Women of Freeport organization. She was also an avid bowler and enjoyed traveling.
She is survived by two brothers, James Burke of Pennsylvania and John Burke of Long Island; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, stepchildren, grandchildren, and great-nieces & great-nephews. She also leaves behind many longtime friends in Freeport.
In addition to her parents and husband, Elizabeth was also predeceased by two brothers, Thomas & Albert Burke.
Once you met Betty, you could not help but love her. To her, family always came first. She will be missed dearly by her family, but will always remain in their hearts.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, November 2 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Monday, November 3 at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction. Interment will follow at St. Denis Cemetery.
