The world has lost some sparkle. We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Elizabeth "Liz" Sammon. Liz passed away on Sunday, August 16, 2026, surrounded by the love, laughter and storytelling of her children and their families as she entered into her final rest - which included one last visit from the ice cream man.
Liz was born December 6, 1945 in Jamaica Queens, NY. She was the daughter of Andrew Causa and Mary Oddo and sister to Joseph Causa, all predeceased.
On November 18, 1967 at the Incarnation Church in Queens Village, New York, Liz married John Sammon, who predeceased her in 2002. Liz is survived by her loving children and their spouses: Andrew & Maria Sammon, John & Jill Sammon, Carleen & Dan Flynn, and Peter & Amanda Sammon. She was a cherished Grammy to Isabella & Jacob Sammon, Danny & Johnny Flynn, and Lilianna & Sofia Sammon. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Mary Ellen Causa and Patricia Wardell; their children, Christine, Bruce, Christine, Dianne, and Kevin; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and other extended family members, including Donna Pilzer and Lori Baxter.
There were many eras of Liz throughout her life, from her adolescence growing up with her big brother and cousins, to becoming the loving wife to John, and the mother to 3 sons and a daughter; all highly spirited. Together, Liz and John created a beautiful, loving family, which is the role that Liz most cherished - especially her role of Grammy.
After raising her children, Liz had careers at the Hello Gift Shop and the Business Office of St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie, where she made many friends and enjoyed the roles she played. In retirement, Liz most enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Liz loved all things beautiful, which fueled her love for jewelry and shopping. Liz was always dressed impeccably and she loved decorating her home. Her home was filled with photos of those she loved, including horses, and a stocked freezer filled with ice cream, her favorite treat. Liz also enjoyed the beauty of simple pleasures, including a swim, a family BBQ, the beach, horses, animals and watching her shows, especially M.A.S.H.
Liz reminds us that there is beauty all around us, most especially in the simplest things in life.
Please join us in celebrating her life. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 20th from 4 - 7 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. A Mass of Christian Burial is being offered on Friday, August 21st at 10:00 am at St. Mary, Mother of the Church, 106 Jackson Street, Fishkill followed by burial at Wappingers Rural Cemetery.
