Obituary

Elizabeth Mary Smith, 64, of New Fairfield, CT, died on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at her home.
Born in Queens on July 24, 1946, she was the daughter of Francis Michael and Mary Ann McAfee Smith. She was a 1964 graduate of Herricks High School in New Hyde Park; a 1967 graduate of Bellevue School of Nursing; a 1974 graduate of the Bellevue School of Anesthesia where she scored in the top 11% on the National Certifying Boards; and a 1978 graduate of St. Francis College in Brooklyn with her degree in Health Care Administration. She then worked on her Masters at Columbia University.
Elizabeth was employed as a Registered Nurse at Bellevue Hospital in Coronary ICU and the Experimental Hemodialysis-Transplant Unit; by Presbyterian Hospital in the Neuro Operating Room; by Roosevelt Hospital as an Instructor in the Nurse Anesthesia Program; and at Cornwall Hospital, Roosevelt Hospital, Norwalk Hospital and Putnam Hospital Center as a C.R.N.A. She enjoyed cooking, entertaining and skiing, and loved children and animals, especially cats.
Elizabeth is survived by her brothers, Chester Smith and his wife Yvonne of Poughkeepsie, and Patrick Smith of Verbank; her niece, Yvette Smith of Poughkeepsie; her nephew, Michael Patrick Smith and his wife Lori of Nanuet; her great-nephews, Noah Smith and Gianni Spucches; and many cousins.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 5 to 8 pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 1pm at St. Martin de Porres Church, 118 Cedar Valley Road, Poughkeepsie followed by interment in Calvary Cemetery.
