Elizabeth Steinitz, 84, a resident of Carmel for 36 years and formerly of Queens, died on Monday, December 14, 2009 at Putnam Hospital Center in Carmel.
Born in Manhattan on September 1, 1925, she was the daughter of Charles and Victoria Kovacs. She studied nursing in high school and she had been employed by Guideposts in Carmel and by Bloomingdales. She had attended Christ the King Lutheran Church in Pawling where her beautiful voice could be heard singing solos in the choir. She was an extremely compassionate woman who loved being with people.
On September 9, 1945 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in the Bronx, she married Edward S. Steinitz who survives at home. She is also survived by her daughters, Linda Vehlow of Hopewell Junction and Nancy Steinitz of Carmel; and her grandson, Richard Edward Vehlow and his wife, Jennifer of Troy. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her siblings, Charles Kovacs II, Bertha Andrews, Charlotte Weir and Helen Hood; and her son-in-law, Richard Vehlow.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Fishkill with Rev. John Young officiating. Interment will follow in Raymond Hill Cemetery in Carmel.
