Obituary

Elmer H. Chamberlin, 88, a resident of Poughkeepsie for 7 years and formerly a 40 year resident of Wappingers Falls died peacefully on Sunday, March 18, 2012 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center surrounded by his family.

Born in Rahway, NJ on July 20, 1923, he was the son of Elmer F. and Adelaide Acheson Chamberlin. In 1947, he received a degree in Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ. He was an Engineer at Bell Labs for 5 years and an Engineer for IBM in Poughkeepsie and Fishkill for 37 years until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of the IBM Quarter Century Club, ASME and the Masons. He loved music and enjoyed playing the piano.

On April 25, 1959 at St. Peter's Church in the Bronx, Elmer married Helen Diehl who survives at home. He is also survived by his daughters and their husbands, Gail and Lee Copeland of Marlboro and Linda and Stephen O'Hare of LaGrangeville; his grandchildren, Melinda Copeland, Daniel, Elizabeth and Erin O'Hare; and his brothers, George Chamberlin of Elk Grove, IL and John Chamberlin of Fishkill.

Calling hours will be held on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
