Elsa Birgitta "Lief" Adams, 92, a resident of Poughquag, died on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center surrounded by her family.
Born in Trollhattan, Sweden on December 14, 1921, she was the daughter of Knut and Elsa Erikson. Lief proudly served as a Second Lieutenant in the US Army Nurse Corps during World War II in the Pacific Theater.
Lief married Paul Adams, a career army officer, on August 10, 1946 in Houston, TX. After Paul's retirement, Lief, Paul and family settled in Poughquag in 1962. Paul predeceased her on May 4, 2002. Lief was a former member of the Beekman Rescue Squad.
Lief is survived by her children, Lynn Adams of Poughquag, Richard Adams and his wife Diane of LaGrange, Peter Adams and his wife Carol of Beekman; her grandchildren, Megan Adams of Boston, MA and Eric Adams of Newark, DE; her sister, Rigmor Washburn of Princeton, MA; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
The funeral service will be private with interment in Beekman Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Beekman Library, PO Box 697, Poughquag, NY 12570.
