Elvi B. Nygard, 85, passed away on Tuesday, March 16, 2021. She died peacefully at home surrounded by her family.

Born October 6, 1935 in Korsnas, Finland, she was the daughter of late parents Karl Arvid Ekstrom and Alvina Irene Ekstrom. Elvi married Sven E. Nygard on November 3, 1956 in Korsnas, Finland. They immigrated to the United States in 1957 and were married for 55 years. Elvi and Sven resided with their family in Briarcliff Manor, Hillsdale, Rhinebeck and LaGrangeville, NY. Elvi was predeceased by her husband, Sven Nygard, on March 29, 2011, and her daughter, Britt-Marie Nygard, on February 14, 1998.

Elvi liked to travel, garden, sew, knit and cook. She was an active member of the Lutheran Parish of Southern Columbia County sewing group and continued her passion of knitting an enormous amount of socks for her family. She was always available with a smile and helping hand. You could often find her organizing and throwing parties for her husband and family.

Elvi is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ann-Christine (Tina) and Neil Bevacqua of LaGrangeville, NY; and two granddaughters, Rebecca Bevacqua of Troy, NY and Emily Bevacqua of LaGrangeville, NY. She is also survived by many friends and other family members in Finland, Sweden, and the United States.

A celebration of her life will be held as weather gets warmer and safe social distancing measures can be taken.
