Esther Elizabeth Churchill, 92, a lifelong area resident, died on Sunday, January 25, 2015 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center surrounded by her family.

Born in East Fishkill on February 4, 1922, she was the daughter of Ananias and Bertha Franz Tompkins. On June 23, 1940 in Hopewell Junction, Esther married John W. Churchill who predeceased her on January 8, 1994.

Esther was a member of the Church of the Resurrection for 91 years. She worked at Vassar College during World War II as a waitress. She loved canning jams, jellies, and pickles; she also enjoyed the altar guild and craft fairs.

Esther is survived by her daughter, Jandell Miller of Hopewell Junction; her son-in-law, Dennis Miller of Hopewell Junction; her grandchildren, Jeffrey John Miller and his wife Kelley and Michael Calvin Miller and his wife Rebbeca; her great-grandson, Hudson Patrick Miller; her sisters- in-law, Betty Tompkins and Betty Churchill; her nieces and nephews, Stuart Churchill, Janet Evans, Betty Jean Stouffer, Carol Ann Taylor, and Brian Tompkins. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Bertha Tompkins and her brother, Andrew Tompkins.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2014, from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the Church of the Resurrection, 182 Route 376, Hopewell Junction. A funeral service will be held at 3:30pm. Interment will be private in Hopewell Cemetery.
