Ethel
Donohue
December 22, 1939 – July 27, 2025
Ethel T. Donohue, lovingly known as "Gammie," passed away peacefully on July 27, 2025, at Taconic at Hopewell Nursing Home in Fishkill, NY. She was 85 years old.
Born in Queens, New York, on December 22, 1939, Ethel spent 35 wonderful years in North Tarrytown, NY, and later embraced 20 fulfilling years in Canada. Her life was centered around what mattered most to her-family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
Ethel had a zest for life and a sparkle in her eye, especially when it came to the thrill of the casino slots, Bingo halls, and scratchy tickets. She always hoped for the "Big Win," but to her, family was the real jackpot. Known for her quick wit, colorful storytelling, and unshakable honesty (with just the right dash of stubbornness), she brought laughter and warmth to everyone who knew her.
The holidays, particularly Thanksgiving, were Ethel's favorite time of year-a time when her extraordinary cooking and baking talents would shine. She was endlessly creative, crafting homemade costumes and filling her home with love, tradition, and the smell of something delicious on the stove.
Ethel is survived by her beloved children: Gail and her husband Ian Fife of Oakville, Ontario, Canada; Carol Stewart and her late husband Paul Stewart of Oakville, Ontario, Canada; and Kevin Donohue of Tarrytown, NY. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Lauren Giannone (and her husband David), Rebecca Stewart (and her partner Serena Spencer), Thomas Stewart (and his wife Tessa), Conor Fife (and his partner Logan Walker), Haley Fife (and her partner Justin Dworak), and Madeline Donohue. Her legacy continues in her great-grandchildren: Ruby Giannone, Pearl Giannone, and Charles Stewart.
She is also survived by her dear brother Robert Paul and his wife Lia, along with many loving nieces and nephews.
Ethel was predeceased by her parents, William and Ethel Paul; and her siblings: Joan Larson (and her husband Herb), Catherine Bellefeuille (and her husband Paul), William Paul, Peter Paul, and Mary Paul.
A celebration of Ethel's life will be held at a later date. Her family invites all who knew and loved her to join them in remembering the laughter, warmth, and joy she brought into their lives.
In her honor, we encourage you to share a story, a recipe, or play a round of Bingo-just the way Ethel would have liked.
