Filomena Perrino, known as Fannie, passed away at Somerby, in Mount Pleasant, SC on April 18, 2022 at the age of 101. Born in Capodrise, Italy on December 23, 1920 (or perhaps on the 24th as her mother was making Christmas cookies, as she remembered it), she married her late husband, John, on 11/11, 1945 at 11 a.m. They celebrated 55 years of loving marriage and four children before his passing.
Fannie arrived at Ellis Island in 1928. She went on to work as a seamstress adding detail beading to Broadway costumes and then to work at Marstelle Bridals in the Bronx, embellishing bridal gowns. Her fashion sense was impeccable, adhering to the Italian tradition of "fare bella figura," looking your best at all times. Fannie's creativity also shined in her love of storytelling, sharing tales of the mischievous Italian leprechaun, the mazzamuriello, that lived in her attic in Italy, the fable of One Eye, Two Eyes, and Three Eyes, and many other stories. She kept her family smiling and laughing. She was a fantastic cook and always made sure everyone was well fed. She volunteered her time at St. Denis Catholic Church, where she was an active part of the community and served as a greeter.
Fannie will be lovingly welcomed into God's kingdom by her husband, John Perrino; daughters, Marie Gonzalez and Annette Aviles; as well as her brothers, Paul and Tony Cirillo. She is survived by her daughter, Joann, and her husband, Bart Gravino, of Huger, SC; her son, John, and his wife, Ellen Perrino, of Hedgesville, WV; her sister, Rose Golino, of the Bronx, NY; her son-in-law Stan Aviles, of Huger, SC; her son-in-law Joe Gonzalez of Centerport, NY; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 from 10:00-11:30 am at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at 12 pm at St. Denis Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction followed by burial at St. Denis Cemetery.
