Florence Theresa Voyers, a resident of Beacon and formerly Glenham, died on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh. She was 83.
Daughter of the late Theresa Luongo Stroming and Lawrence Stroming, she was born in Brooklyn on August 3, 1932. On November 3, 1951, she married Ralph L. Voyers, Sr. at St. Blaise Church in Brooklyn.
Her husband was a career serviceman for the U.S. Navy and together they lived in various cities throughout the country and raised their children. They lived in California for many years, and in 1969 relocated to Dutchess County, where they managed Mountainview Garden Apartments in Glenham. Florence had resided in Beacon for the last 30 years.
She spent many years working for N.Y.S. Department of Corrections at Downstate Corrections Facility and Camp Beacon up until she retired just three years ago. For some time, she also worked at the Fishkill Department Store.
Florence was preceded in death by her husband on September 19, 1987.
Survivors include her son, Ralph L. Voyers, Jr. and his wife Donna of Hopewell Junction; her daughter, Theresa Thorne & her husband Steven of Beacon; her son, Scott A. Voyers of Beacon; her grandchildren, Eric Voyers & his wife Kristy of Patterson, Ryan Voyers of Hopewell Junction, Jesse M. Colon & his partner Amy Ruppman of Beacon, Nicole Thorne of Beacon, and Lindsay Thorne of Beacon; her great-granddaughter, Madison Mianti; and her brother, Lawrence Stroming & his wife Judith of Franklin Square; also many other loving relatives & friends.
Calling hours will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 5 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. A funeral service will take place at 5 p.m. immediately following calling hours. Interment will be private.
