FISHKILL - Florent "Frenchy" Fontana, 81, a resident of Fishkill and formerly of Queens, passed away on September 13th, 2019 surrounded by his immediate family.
He was born to parents Achille and Ersilia Fontana on August 7th, 1938, in Italy. Frenchy was raised in France before his family relocated to the United States.
He was a retired electrician who worked for 40 years for IBEW Local #3 in Queens. He was dedicated to his union and was very proud of his work. He had an outstanding reputation and he developed and valued his friendships with many of the colleagues that worked with him.
Frenchy loved to golf, eat good food & wine, and travel, especially to his beloved France where he enjoyed visiting with close relatives and childhood friends. Most of all, Frenchy loved spending time with his wife and sons. He cherished his grandchildren and always made it a point to visit his sister and nieces on a regular basis. He was known for his straightforward and practical mannerisms, his love of storytelling, and his kind & compassionate spirit. Frenchy had a charming personality and was a truly likeable person.
Frenchy is survived by his loving wife, Carmen; his son, Marc Fontana & his wife Alicia of Wappingers Falls; his son, Robert Fontana & his wife Martha of Lindenhurst; his son, Michael Fontana & his wife Kathleen of Wappingers Falls; his grandchildren: Kevin, Brian, Cristina, and Julian; his sister, Renee Suarez; and many other relatives and friends.
Calling hours will be held from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm on Saturday, September 21st and 2-5 pm on Sunday, September 22nd at McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. A funeral service will be held at 5 pm on Sunday immediately following calling hours.
