Fran Weisgrau (nee Signer), 93, died on July 10, 2016 at Valley Manor Care Center in Montrose, CO.

Born in Worcester, Massachusetts on December 2, 1922, she was the daughter of Simcha Signer and Rose Signer (nee Weinstein). She graduated from Shulamith School for Girls of Brooklyn Yeshiva (high school).

Fran loved to read and enjoyed conversational Hebrew and Yiddish, word games (especially Boggle), square dancing, camping and traveling. Israel, China, Spain, Italy, England, Puerto Rico, and Jamaica were all visited by Fran with anyone who would be willing to travel with her. Although she went on several cruises, her favorite was the windjammer cruise that she took with her husband Bernie in which they slept on deck, walked barefoot and helped the crew. If Fran was in the room, everyone knew it. Her quick wit and timing when telling jokes, especially in Yiddish, was lots of fun. Maybe the best of all was that Fran loved to sing. She'd break into song at the slightest provocation, sang in various choruses over the years and amused her grandchildren with her voice exercises. Most important, Fran was a good mother to her three daughters and a wise and funny matriarch to her extended family.

Fran was predeceased by her husband, Bernard Weisgrau on July 12, 2008. She was also predeceased by her siblings, Al Signer, Rose Signer, Rubin Signer, and David Signer.

She is survived by her children, Gloria Goverman (Steve), Roxanne Morris (Alan), and Tsivya Frieder (Barry); her grandchildren, Hannah, Noah, Jonah, Emma, Aaron, David, Genevieve, Kristin, and Matthew; and her great-grandchildren, Gavriel, Ahuva, Ruchel Meira, Hadassah Rina, Shmuel Dov, Yitzak Yonaton, and Miriam Malka.

The service will be held on Thursday at 10am at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by interment in Mount Zion Cemetery, Maspeth.

The family will observe Shiva at the Goverman residence on Thursday from 3-8pm and Friday from 1-5pm, and Shiva Minyan on Saturday from 7:30-9:30pm.
