Frank B. Adonetti, 90, passed away peacefully at home on January 15, 2024.
Frank was born in Newark, NJ on October 23, 1933. He was the son of the late Joseph and Anna (Colasanti) Adonetti. Two other brothers, Anthony and Joseph, came afterwards.
The Family moved to New Rochelle, NY where he graduated from New Rochelle High School in 1951. After graduation he attended Peabody Music College in Nashville, TN
At 6 years of age, he heard the sound of his neighbor Pete Chiodo playing the trumpet. He was instantly captured and began a lifetime of love for the instrument and a passion for jazz. At age 14, he took a train to Manhattan and entered a competition at the Apollo Theater and won, which resulted with him playing in the Apollo's house band for a stint. In 1956 he joined the army, rooming with renowned musician Wayne Shorter. Together they played in the US Army Jazz band, which was often televised. On weekends, he played in the NYC Jazz clubs on 52nd St, also called Swing Street at that time. He connected and played with many iconic singers and musicians of the era, among them: Louie "Satchmo" Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald, Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman, Tony Bennett and Quincy Jones. He toured with many throughout the United States during these years. He also recorded with many, notably on Bobby Darin's Beyond the Sea album released in 1959.
On April 8, 1958, Frank married Patricia Swan Brown in Manhattan, a love that would remain for nearly 66 years. She survives at home and misses him hugely.
Soon after, they settled in Larchmont, NY where together they raised 4 children. Besides being a gifted trumpet player, Frank was a natural salesman. To stay closer to home, he took a position as Vice-President of Structural Contours, a company owned by his brother Anthony, and worked there for many years. He later became an award-winning sales associate with the Yellow Pages and, in his later years, worked in a managerial position with the US Census Bureau. The family moved to Hopewell Junction in 1981. He was loved by many locals over the years and received the nickname "Frankie Baby" because of his charming and innocently flirtatious nature.
In the latter years of his life, Frank returned to his first love – the trumpet, playing weekends with a small jazz combo at The Depot in Cold Spring. He had been invited into the group by the original trumpet player who was retiring at 95 years of age. That Trumpet player was Pete Chiodo, the same Pete who was playing next door eighty years earlier. They had remained close throughout their lives.
Frank is survived by his wife Patricia, his brother Joseph Adonetti (Rosemarie), Sister-in-law Patricia (Anthony) Adonetti. His Children: Son Joseph of Albany, Daughters Gabrielle Adonetti (Eric Wilson) of Wappingers Falls, Francesca Wilder (Timothy) of Newtown, CT, and Adrienne Micheli (Richard) of Wappingers Falls; his Grandchildren Kayla Adonetti; Crystal, Nancy and Timothy Wilder; Damon, Devon and Angelina Micheli and his Great-Grandchildren Avalyn and Jayce.
In addition to his parents, Frank was also predeceased by his brother Anthony Adonetti
