Obituary

HOPEWELL JUNCTION– Frank Joseph Flory, 95, an area resident since 1969 and formerly of Mahopac and Queens, died on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at the Wingate at Dutchess.

Born in Queens on June 10, 1918, he was the son of the late Nazzarino and Florence Flori. On February 22, 1940 at St. Mary's Church in Flushing, Queens, he married Frances (Amato) Flory. His wife of 71 years predeceased him on April 9, 2011.

Frank was employed as a maintenance supervisor for over 25 years for Trans World Airlines (TWA) in Queens until his retirement in 1968. He attended Wright Aeronautical School, the Academy of Aeronautics, and Pratton-Whitney School of Aeronautics. Frank worked as a trainer and assisted with the installation of TWA's first jet engines. He was instrumental in preparing the plane for the Pope Paul VI when he visited the United States.

Frank is survived by his children, Gasper "Jerry" Flory and his wife Prudence of Mahopac and Phyllis Mackin of Fishkill; his daughter-in-law, Patricia Flory of Amherst, MA; his grandchildren and their spouses, Nazareth and Diane Flory of Hopewell Junction, Frank and Christine Flory of Hopewell Junction, Nicole and Derek Kellogg of Amherst, MA; Gasper "Jerry" Flory, Jr. of Fishkill, Jamy and Christina Flory of Hopewell Junction, James and Monica Mackin, Jr. of Hopewell Junction, and Lance and Staci Mackin of Poughkeepsie; his great-grandchildren, Sophia, Isabella, Olivia, Erin, Maximus, Taylor, Gabriella, Gianna, Regina-Grace, Madison, Lance, Lily, Lucas, Cole, and Cassie; and his siblings, Madeline, Anna, Marie, and Gerry. In addition to his parents and wife, he was also predeceased by his son, Nazareth Flory on August 29, 2013, his son-on-law, James Mackin on March 2, 2007, and his brother, Jerry Flory.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 11:30 am at St. Columba Church, 835 Route 82, Hopewell Junction followed by entombment at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Putnam Valley.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Frank's memory to the American Cancer Society of Alzheimer's Association.
