FRANK GRODIO – March 23rd 1948 – September 4th, 2021
We are saddened to announce the passing of Frank Grodio. Frank was born on March 23, 1948 in Manhattan, New York. He transitioned to his eternal rest on September 4, 2021 at home in Douglaston, New York. He was 73 years old. Frank was the third child of the late Frank Grodio and Frances Grodio nee Fernholz. He shared over sixteen loving and fulfilling years with his precious wife Leona whom he called his angel. They were married on August 20, 2005. He dearly loved his three children, Frank, Mary and Geraldine and his eight grandchildren. He loved celebrating holidays, cooking for them and sharing great stories of his life with them. In the months before his passing, he took great joy in passing on his personal treasures to his children and grandchildren giving them each something special to remember him by.
Frank was a Veteran who maneuvered the jungles of Vietnam to deliver precious mail to his fellow soldiers. After returning from the war, he started working in the Sheet Metal business while attending college at night. A few years later, he was given the opportunity to enter into a partnership and, eventually, became the sole owner of Franchet Metal Craft, Inc., in Jamaica, Queens until his retirement in 2017. He was not shy in saying that he was the best Mechanical Engineer and was proud to tell of where one can see his creations like the huge metal balls in one of the Macy's Christmas displays! Family and friends may also have some of his beautiful handy works.
Frank and Leona loved doing things together and with family and friends. Until recently, they not only travelled between their homes in South Carolina and New York but also to many far away countries such as Thailand, China, Italy, England, Iceland, Mexico, Costa Rica, France, Holland, Saint Lucia, Dominican Republic, Bahamas, Jamaica, Aruba, Germany, Switzerland, Holland, and Greece with his sister-in-law Larraine and his brother Anthony, and to Spain after Anthony's health was declining. He enjoyed telling stories of these marvelous adventures. Every day was a beautiful day according to Frank Grodio. He loved playing cards whether with a group of buddies, young and older, in a basement or at the Casino in Atlantic City. He had a core group of friends whom he treasured. Some going as far back to kindergarten and middle school and some as recent as a new neighbor. He lived his life with grace and purpose!
He is survived by his wife Leona, his three children Frank Grodio, Mary Sekhri and Geraldine Armstrong; his stepson Shane Pittam; his daughter-in-law Carolyn Grodio; sons-in-law Sachin Sekhri and Ramon Armstrong; grandchildren Max, Dylan and Reagan Grodio, Aiden, Lyla and Nora Sekhri and Tyree and Cameron Armstrong. He was also survived by many nieces and nephews. Frank was the brother of Joseph (Joe) Grodio (Joyce) and the late Anthony Grodio (Larraine); sister of Theresa Fico (Anthony); cousin of Larry Hanson, Jean Mascia and Lucille Forzano. He will be greatly missed, and his memory will always be cherished by relatives and friends. May his soul rest in peace.
Wake service will be held at McHoul Funeral Home (895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction, NY) on Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2021 from 2pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm. Mass will be held in his honor at St. Denis Church (602 Beekman Rd, Hopewell Junction, NY) on Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2021 at 10 am.
