Frank T. MacBrien, 75, died on Sunday, September 13, 2009 at North Adams Regional Hospital. He was born in Poughkeepsie, NY on December 30, 1933, the son of Frank C. and Elizabeth "Betty" Case MacBrien. He graduated from Franklin Delano Roosevelt High School in Hyde Park, NY.
He leaves his wife whom he adored, the former Thelma J. Tagg, whom he married on April 3, 1964.; six children to whom he was a loving father, Mark & Bonnie MacBrien of Waterbury, VT, Matthew & Suzanne MacBrien of Blue Ridge, VA, Theresa & Scott Bradley of Clinton Corners, NY, Elizabeth Rugar of Arvada, CO, Michele & Steve Stenson of Saline, MI, and Tammy & Don Downs of Hopewell Junction, NY; 14 grandchildren, Luke MacBrien, Gavin MacBrien, Trevor MacBrien, Thomas Lange, Corey Rugar, Jennifer Satterly, Christopher Rugar, Brenden Kormann, Jason Davis, Allison Davis, Gregory Davis, Amelia Stenson, Daniel Stenson and Griffin Downs; four great-grandchildren, Roman Davis, Brayden Rugar, Acelyn Rugar and Wyatt Satterly; two bothers and two sisters, Wayne & Kathleen MacBrien of Hyde Park, NY, Richard MacBrien of Salt Point, NY, Doreen Volnick of Poughkeepsie, NY and Sharon & James DiMetro of Pleasant Valley, NY. He also leaves behind his faithful dog, Blue.
Frank worked as a plumber for 40 years for Union Local #201 in Poughkeepsie. He was a member of the Northern Berkshire YMCA. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, the ocean, photography, nature, travel and adventure. He was a good storyteller, avid reader and historian, had great faith and above all was devoted to his entire family. He was a friend to everyone and hated for anyone to be in conflict, he wanted everyone to get along. He was a generous man who would give you everything he could, especially his time and love. He enjoyed the simple things in life and loved his home and gardens in Vermont.
There will be no viewing, but visitation and a service will be held on Saturday at the Hopewell Reformed Church, 143 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction, starting at 10:00 a.m. and the service at 11:00 a.m. Frank had always requested that at his memorial service that people do not wear black, but instead celebrate life.
