FISHKILL – Frank D. Spola, 91, a Fishkill resident since 1968, died peacefully on July 22, 2023 at Taconic Rehabilitation and Nursing at Hopewell. He previously lived in Manhattan and North Bergen, NJ.
Born on March 7, 1932 in New York City, he was the son of the late Dario and Gilda (Boglietti) Spola. He proudly served in the US Navy, and participated in the Honor Flight to Washington DC on October 6, 2018. Frank retired from IBM in East Fishkill in 1989 after 35 years of service.
Frank was a devout Catholic who attended mass at St. Joachim Church in Beacon and previously at St. Columba Church in Hopewell Junction, where he served as a lector and eucharistic minister. He had been a cub scout and boy scout leader, and enjoyed woodworking, bowling, and fishing. Frank was also a die-hard NY Giants fan and attended many NFL games.
On May 1, 1955 at St. Columba Church in New York City, Frank married Ida (Bianchetto) Spola who predeceased him in 2017 after 61 years of blissful marriage together. He is survived by his daughter, Donna Snowden of Glenham; his son, Rick Spola and his wife Michelle of Glenham; his grandchildren, Mark Snowden and his wife Kelli of Verbank and Samantha Cuello and her husband Christian of Beacon; his great-grandchildren, Ava, Jordan, Leo, and Callie; his sister, Ada Barbieri; his sister-in-law, Theresa Spola; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, Frank was also predeceased by his siblings, Italo "Jimmy" Spola and Mario Spola.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 3 – 7pm at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday at 10 am at St. Joachim Church in Beacon followed by military honors.
