Obituary

Franklin Evert lost his two year battle with pancreatic cancer at the young age of 45 on September 4, 2015. Although his life was too short, those who knew him understand that the quality of one's life far exceeds the quantity. He died in the home that he so lovingly created for his wife and son. He was surrounded by all those who loved him and had shared his life.

Frank was born on October 31, 1969 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. He was a lifetime resident of Dutchess County and lived in LaGrange. Frank attended Arlington Schools. After leaving school Frank worked in construction. He had much admiration for two of the companies he worked for; Jay Shaffer Construction and Versatile Carpentry. Although he enjoyed construction, after the birth of his son he felt he needed a job that was safer as his vision deteriorated.

Frank was a member of the Mid County Rod and Gun Club for over 20 years. He was also a member of the Poughkeepsie Elks Lodge 275 for over 15 years. He was a Rotarian for 7 years.

Frank was loved by so many but especially by his eight year old son, Wayne. They spent much quality time together; playing, working, talking, building beautiful memories and searching for Sasquatch on their property, a being that Wayne is convinced exists. Of all the things in life that Frank was proud of there was nothing more important to him than being a Dad. From this he received more happiness than anything else in life.

Frank cared deeply for those in need and less fortunate then himself. This was evident with his devotion to the non-profit company, Water Without Borders that he started in 2007. Frank learned a great deal about water and water purification when he was given an opportunity to work with his friend Andy in 2007. Andy owned and operated an international water filtration company, Alrafidane. While working with Alrafidane, Frank learned a great deal about water. He was alarmed to learn how many people, especially children, were getting sick and even dying from impure water. Being the father of a young son, Frank realized he had to do something to help bring clean water to the children and underprivileged of the world. It was at this time that Frank started the non-profit company called Water Without Borders. It truly was without borders. His mission was to help those abroad and in the United States and he did. This was a daunting task for Frank because he was legally blind. Over the past seven years, Frank has worked hard to accomplish the goal of bringing clean water to those in need. Water Without Borders has accomplished much with very little. Frank's efforts have brought Water Without Borders to Africa, Honduras, and Haiti.

He worked long hours for 7 years for this company. His devotion to WWB knew no bounds. Because money is scarce for non-profits, he worked without a salary the entire time. Frank travelled to Haiti on two occasions. The devastation he witnessed because of the earthquake in 2010 affected him deeply. This only made him more determined to help as many people as possible in need of safe water. He had planned a trip to Togo, Africa, where WWB is involved in a project but was prevented from doing this because of his illness. That project was completed in December 2014 and helped hundreds of people.

Frank had many admirable attributes. He was smart, altruistic, and witty with a good sense of humor. He was a handsome man and his son is the spitting image of him.

Frank leaves behind his devoted wife and companion, Kelly, who has been by his side for over 20 years; his best friend and son, Wayne; his mother, Shirley Evert of LaGrange; his brother, Jeffrey F. Evert and his wife Sherry, and their three children from Lugoff, SC; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. His father, Douglas Evert predeceased him on January 14, 2010. Frank asked us not to forget to mention the 10 chickens he leaves to the care of Kelly and Wayne. They gave him so much enjoyment.

At night when you see the brightest star in the heavens twinkling above you, have no doubt that that is Frank letting us know that he has gone to a beautiful place.
