HOPEWELL JUNCTION – Fred L. Pereira, 63, an area resident since 1988, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on September 16, 2023. He previously lived in Ossining.
Born on October 20, 1959 in Lisbon, Portugal, Fred was the son of the late Francisco and Maria Elena (Lima) Pereira. Fred began his career as a police officer for the Village of Ossining and while also working at IBM in East Fishkill. Fred retired as a supervisor from Local 60 in Hawthorne where he was employed for over 25 years.
Fred enjoyed cooking, shopping and spending time with his family. Nennie, as he is affectionately known by all his nieces and nephews, loved spending time watching them grow and play. Fred would always make sure that there were plenty of things at his home for the kids to play and do. They were his world. Watching the family have dinner together and spending time always put a smile on his face. To say family was important is an understatement. During the holidays he would cook a feast. A short drive to Danbury for traditional Portuguese treats was never out of the question.
Fred was a hardworking family man. Caring for his family was always at the top of his list.
Fred is survived by his siblings, Roy Pereira and his wife Sherry, Dalila Pereira, Soraya Osterhoudt and her husband Marcus, and Jorge Pereira and his wife Gina. his nieces and nephews, Mechelle, Michaell, Paul Kyle, Marllena, Kristina, Katelynn, Mellanie, Isabella, and Elena; his great-nephew, Adrian; Cousin Aurora Tavares, her husband Luis Garcia and her children Frank, Daniel and Jessica; Cousin Frank Tavares Sr.
Calling hours will be held at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction on Wednesday, September 20th from 4 – 8 pm with a funeral service beginning at 7:45 pm. Burial will take place on Friday, September 22nd at 11 am at Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
