Manfred "Fred" Schulz of Poughquag, NY, known affectionately by his family as "Pop," passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on the morning of October 20, 2026 at the age of 78.

Born in Hamburg, Germany on November 24, 1947, he was the son of the late Hermann and Gerda (Ruppenhorst) Schulz. When he was 11 years old, Fred emigrated with his family to New York City where he grew up and became an upholsterer apprentice. He continued to practice upholstery in Mt. Kisco, NY where he met his to-be wife, Mary Christiansen, at the dentist's office where she worked when he went in with a toothache. Fred and Mary were married on August 22, 1970, in Bedford Village, NY and have shared 56 years of love, tears, hard work and laughter. As a young family with two daughters they moved to Poughquag, NY in 1978.

In 1985, Fred and Mary established their own custom upholstery and window treatments business. When he wasn't working, Fred found enjoyment in all types of outdoor activities, whether it was hunting, sailing, skiing or swimming in the family pool with his kids. He was a talented carpenter and built many fun things for them including a tree house, sandbox, play-horse barn and even a skating rink!

After semi-retirement from upholstery work, he became a driver for Mahogany Ridge Car Service in Pleasant Valley. He was adored by his clients, many of whom would request him specifically as he always went above and beyond to make sure they were comfortable and safe. He truly enjoyed the time he had with his clients too, sharing funny moments and interesting stories with his family after his day of driving.

Fred was a wonderful father, grandfather and great-grandfather who truly enjoyed being involved in their lives. He will be remembered for his unwavering dependability, incredible stubborn-ness, and amazingly tender heart. Fred was a true family man as he made sure they were always taken care of. He had a light-hearted spirit about him, loved deeply, and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.

Fred leaves behind his wife Mary; his daughters: Cynthia (Jeff) Price of Lexington, KY; and Amy (Brian) Wohrman of LaGrangeville, NY, granddaughter Sarah (Nolan) Odell, and great-granddaughter Amelia Odell of Old Forge, NY.
