Frederick J. Barton, 61, of Mahopac, NY, passed away on September 3, 2023. He spent the weekend surrounded by his family and friends, camping, and enjoying the holiday weekend; and in the midst of it, God called him home.
Freddy was a devoted husband, father, PopPop, son, brother, and friend. He was so incredibly proud of his children and grandchildren. He loved celebrating every accomplishment with them. He spent many days working on the campground that he built for his family and friends. He took great pride in bringing smiles to the faces of those he loved. Freddy was a strong, loving, and generous man.
Freddy retired in 2021 from Fishkill Plate Glass. He was a partner in the family business for four decades, working with his father, cousins, wife, and sons.
He leaves behind to mourn him his loving wife, Susan. They were blessed with 25 years together and enjoyed spending that time with family, friends, and traveling.
He is also survived by his children, Jessica Elsener, Shane Barton (Kimberly), Jeromy Barton, Keri Barton, Chris Henion, and Tim Henion.
His family meant the world to him, and he will be dearly missed by his grandchildren, Charlotte & Sophia Elsener, Alex & David Barton, and Phoebe, Ariel, Aurora, and Snow McCubbins.
He also leaves behind his sisters, Donna Castiglioni (Dave) and Jeanie Wood (Tony); as well as his cousins, Bill and Gary Barton, who were more like brothers to him.
Freddy had the ability to make fast friends, which led to many adventures. He had a special bond with his best friends, George & Tracey Phillips and Liz & John Boffoli, along with their families, which lasted for decades.
Freddy also had a close relationship with his wife's family, Linda McGowan (Don), Joanne Johnson (Ralph), Nancy McGowan, Michael McGowan, Joe McGowan (Dawn), and Uncle Roger Smith.
Additional survivors include his son-in-law, Matt Elsener, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Freddy had many friends who became family and cherished his time with them all.
He is also survived by his mother, Eva Stimpson.
Freddy was predeceased by his father, Frederick A. Barton; his cousin, John Barton; and his parents-in-law, Charles & Ruth McGowan.
Freddy brought a light into a dark world and his passing will leave us with a huge hole in our hearts. He loved fiercely and selflessly. His final earthly act was to be an organ donor, and his family is so proud to know that he was able to help others at his time of passing. He was a huge supporter of the Wounded Warrior Project, so in lieu of flowers, we ask for donations in his honor. (www.woundedwarriorproject.org)
Freddy had a moral compass that was etched in stone, and he held everyone to that standard. Let's all make him proud.
In accordance with his wishes, Freddy will be cremated, and his remains will be scattered.
We will be celebrating his life the only way he would want it, at Stinson's Hub, 439 Fishkill Avenue, Beacon, NY on Saturday, September 9th from 12pm until 4pm. Children are welcome.
