Obituary

WAPPINGERS FALLS – Frederick Albert Herring, 84, passed away on May 12, 2015 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. He was joyfully reunited with his wife of 60 years, Jane M. Rathbun Herring, who just recently died on March 2, 2015.

Born in Queens on June 16, 1930, he was the son of the late Albert and Elizabeth (Mueller) Herring. He grew up in Flushing Meadows, Queens before moving to Wappingers Falls 65 years ago. Fred proudly served our country in the US Army from 1951-1953.

Fred enjoyed flying, and had been a private pilot since he was 17 year old. He was an amateur gemologist who also liked to play the harmonica.
Fred had been employed by IBM in Poughkeepsie for over 44 years and retired as Senior Optical Engineer in 1991. During his retirement, he continued his passion of optical lens design.

Fred is survived by his son, Dean Herring and his wife Susan of Youngsville, NC; his grandson, Michael Herring and his wife Sarah of Youngsville, NC; his siblings, Raymond Herring and his wife Dolores, Elizabeth Wang, and George Herring and his wife Sondra; and his nieces and nephews. His family will always remember his great sense of humor.
