Frederick Elias Velie, 55, of Amsterdam since 1990 and formerly of Wappingers Falls, died on Sunday, August 29, 2010.
Born in Poughkeepsie on March 21, 1955, he was the son of Elias F. Velie of Wappingers Falls and the late Lucy Kozakiewicz Velie. He was a 1973 graduate of John Jay High School, served in the US Air Force and was employed as an electrician with the IBEW. He enjoyed playing chess and the trombone, reading and listening to music.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his children, Brandon Velie and his fiancé Leah Bowman of Poughkeepsie, Leigh Velie of Sacramento, CA and Tryndolin Velie of Amsterdam; his brothers, James Velie and wife Jayne of Lake Katrine and Philip Velie and wife Marianne of Hopewell Junction; his sister, Alicia Carr of Hampton Bays; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. The funeral service will be held at 8 p.m. with Rev.Taylor Holbrook officiating.
