Frederick J. Wern died peacefully on November 30, 2024 after a gradual decline into dementia. Fred was born on June 10, 1937 to Henry and Katherine (Neubauer) Wern in New York City. He is predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Henry and Jack.

Fred married Barbara (Weir) in February 1960. They had four children, Ann (Wendell), Deborah (predeceased), Robert, and Fred (Caren). He is survived by five grandchildren, Debbie, Jack, Zachary, Nicholas and Amanda; and two great grandchildren, Claire and Charlotte.

Fred served in the US Army Jan.1956 to Oct.1958, he was able to spend time in Germany during his peacetime deployment. After the service, Fred worked as a manager for the Woolworth retailer in New York City and Long Island. In 1972, Fred moved the family to the Hudson Valley and became the manager for the Bradlees Store in Poughkeepsie until his retirement.

In his retirement, Fred tended to his large vegetable garden and fruit trees and raised honeybees. He loved gifting family and friends with produce, honey or homemade candles.

Family and friends are invited to call at McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction, NY on Wednesday, December 4, 2024 from 5pm - 7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Denis Roman Catholic Church, 602 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction on Thursday, December 5 at 10am. Interment will follow at St. Denis Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hudson Valley Hospice 374 Violet Ave. Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. The staff was wonderful during Fred's last months. Thank you to all the nurses and aides who came to the house to care for our beloved Fred.
