Obituary


G. Linnea Nordlund, a resident of the Town of East Fishkill since 1952 and formerly of the Bronx, died on Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at the Wingate at Dutchess in Fishkill.


Born in Jersey City, NJ she was the daughter of Alfonse and Aina Henrickson Johnson. Prior to her employment, Linnea was one of the early volunteers at the East Fishkill Library in Fishkill Plains. She was employed as a secretary for the Wappingers Central School District for 20 years until her retirement in 1985 and then worked briefly at the East Fishkill Town Hall. She was a member of the Hopewell Reformed Church where she was a program chairman for the Women's Guild. She was also a member and past president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Hillside Lake Fire Company and a member of the Dutchess Secretarial Association.


On May 23, 1942 in Jersey City, she married Sven Nordlund who survives at home. In addition to her husband and her daughter, Christine Stammer and her husband, Dr. Donald Stammer of Hopewell Junction, she is also survived by four grandchildren, Judson LaLonde and his wife, Zoe; Kirsten Fury-Stammer, Kimberly Stammer and Christopher Stammer. In addition, she is survived by one great-grandson, Finlay LaLonde. Her brother, Theodore Johnson of East Brunswick, NJ predeceased her.


Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Hopewell Reformed Church, 143 Beekman Road, Hopewell Junction. The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. at the church with Rev. Taylor Holbrook officiating. Interment will follow in the Hopewell Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction.


In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to one of the following: Hopewell Reformed Church, American Heart Association, or Hospice Foundation, Inc.


Linnea truly loved her church and her years of singing in the choir. Next to the church, her family was a source of her devotion.


The family wishes to sincerely thank Hospice and the staff of Wingate, particularly the nurses of the Boscobel Unit.
