COLD SPRING - Gaetano "Guy" Toscano, a 25-year resident of Cold Spring, NY, passed away on Friday, December 27, 2024, at the Hudson Valley Hospice House in Hyde Park, NY. He was 86.

Son of the late Alfio and Francesca (Gugliotta) Toscano, he was born in Catania, Sicily, on January 8, 1938. He was 1 of 7 children. He left home in his late teens to follow his passion for soccer and played semi-professional soccer for Genoa. After winning several major games, he was scouted for U.C. Sampdoria but that would never come to fruition because he met his future wife on a celebration cruise of the Mediterranean. She was the Head Hostess and translator for the Captain of the Olympia out of Greece. They moved to Canada where he worked for the School of the Blind for several years. They followed his uncle and aunt to Cold Spring, NY where he opened G.T. Panting and Decorating and settled to start a family. He was a volunteer fireman for North Highlands Fire House, taught recreational soccer, and enjoyed hobbies like hunting, masonry work, antiquing, rescuing stray dogs and cats, and playing practical jokes on family members and close friends.

He is survived by his daughter, Francesca Bernhardt, and her husband Helge; his son, Alfio Toscano; his Daughter-in-Law, Lisa Russell Toscano; his grandchildren, Ciana and Dimitri; his nephews Angelo Caserta and Alfio Caserta, and nieces Nina Anello and Franca Caserta.

He is predeceased by his uncle Gino Toscano, aunt Concetta Toscano, and spouse Zafiria Toscano; his sister, Serafina Caserta.

Calling hours will be held from 1 pm to 3 pm on Sunday January 19, 2025 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill, NY. A memorial service will begin at 3 pm.
